DR. ADAM ARMSTRONG - Chiropractor, Clinical Acupuncture

Dr. Adam Armstrong received his undergraduate education at the University of Acadia where he earned a Bachelor of Kinesiology in 2002 and a Bachelor of Education degree in 2004. He was also a member of the Acadia Varsity Hockey team from 1998-2003. During his time at Acadia, Adam also received the Citizenship Award which is given in recognition of one male and one female athlete who best illustrate great leadership and work ethic both on and off the campus. Adam was named to the RBC Academic All-Canadian Honour Roll during the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 academic years. In 2003, Adam was the proud recipient of the Acadia University Student of the Year award. He continued to pursue his education at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) and graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic with Clinic Honours in 2009. In addition to his chiropractic training.
Dr. Armstrong is also certified as an Active Release Technique (ART) provider in Spine, Upper Limb and Lower Limb. He also completed the Contemporary Medical Acupuncture course in 2009 at McMaster University. During his time at CMCC, he attended a number of specialty seminars focused on functional muscle palpation and adjustment techniques. Dr. Armstrong is also a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and is certified in the Webster Technique.
In April of 2009, Dr. Armstrong had the privilege of travelling to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic with a group of 11 of his peers on a Chiropractic without Border trip. During the mission, the group had the opportunity to meet numerous patients of all ages with a variety of conditions ranging from arthritis, stiff joints and tight muscles, to heart disease, carpal tunnel syndrome and the occasional fracture. This experience was a life-changing one and was a great way to end to his time at CMCC and provide a fantastic start into his chiropractic career.
Dr. Armstrong is firm believer in a holistic approach to health. It is his goal to help you achieve and maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. He believes that it is important for patients to focus on all the aspects influencing their health: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual, in order to achieve optimal health and restore function. He believes in focusing in on the root of the problem and not just treating the pain symptoms alone.
Dr. Armstrong is a very active individual and believes that the sooner one gets involved in physical activity, the less likely it is that the problem with become chronic. In 1994, Dr. Armstrong was drafted to the Oshawa Generals OHL team and continued to play hockey throughout his university career. He has been involved with the Whitby Dunlops Mens Hockey Team since 2009-10 and was their Head Coach for the 2014-15 season. He also enjoys sports such as golf, waterskiing, lacrosse, biking and swimming along with many other activities.

    DR. SARAH BAXTER - Chiropractor, Yoga Instructor

    Dr. Sarah Baxter received her undergraduate education at the University of Guelph where she earned an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Human Kinetics. It was at Guelph where her passion for the human body was ignited. She was also a member of the Varsity Women's Volleyball team where she held Academic All-Canadian status.
    Following graduation in 2009, she continued her education at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College where her dedication to knowledge and patient care further developed. In June 2013, she graduated Summa Cum Laude with Clinic Honours. She was honoured to receive numerous awards including the Vern Welsh Memorial Award for excellence in diagnostic imaging, the Doctor Harold Beasley Award for Excellence in Jurisprudence and the Douglas V. Hoskins & Samuel F. Sommacal Clinic Proficiency Award.
    In addition to her chiropractic training, Dr. Baxter has received certificates in Active Release Techniques for the lower extremity and spine. In June 2014, Dr. Baxter completed Balanced Life Yoga's 200hr Inspiring Spirit Teacher Training program. In April 2015, she completed an additional 300hr teacher training in yoga techniques, including yoga therapy, philosophy, meditation, biomechanics, and yoga anatomy. She has also received Fundamentals Training in Essential Somatics movement based therapy.
    Dr. Baxter believes that you should be able to live your life fully at any stage. She approaches patient care from a holistic perspective honouring the body, mind and spirit, so that you can live the best version of yourself-free of pain and dysfunction.
    Dr. Baxter also believes movement is key to life and is incorporated into her treatments. She works to make exercise accessible and feel good in your body. In addition to practicing chiropractic, Dr. Baxter teaches yoga including drop-in classes, Yoga for Better Backs and workshops on various topics including posture, shoulder, wrist, knee and hip.
    Dr. Baxter also maintains a healthy lifestyle. She enjoys walking, hiking, biking, swimming, golfing and of course, yoga. When not in the office, she is busy running after her son and enjoying her roles as a wife and mum.

    LEIGHA JOHNSTON - Registered Massage Therapist, Certified Athletic Therapist

    Leigha Johnston received her undergraduate education at Sheridan College where she earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in Athletic Therapy. During her undergraduate years, Leigha served as a Student Athletic Therapist for 2 years with post-secondary athletic teams, providing treatment, return-to-play assessment, and rehabilitation to the varsity athletes.
    Following her graduation in 2015, Leigha worked as an Athletic Therapist for 3 years before furthering her education and passion for pain treatment, prevention, and muscle therapy by becoming a Registered Massage Therapist. Leigha specializes in relieving chronic pain, tightness, and improving postural dysfunction through soft tissue release, fascial release, and deep tissue massage.
    An avid hockey, football, and rugby player herself, Leigha combines her massage and athletic therapy knowledge to give patients optimal musculoskeletal function. Her goal is to help patients live an active, pain-free life.

    SHAWN WINTERS - Athletic Therapist

    Shawn Winters received his Bachelor of Health Science in Athletic Therapy from Sheridan. After his graduation he went to work in the Quinte area. After working in clinics and as an assistant with the Wellington Dukes (OJHL), he was hired as the assistant Athletic Therapist for the Belleville Senators (AHL). He was also the head Athletic Therapist for Cobourg Kodiaks (MSL) and the Quinte Skyhawks (OFC). Shawn is currently the Head Athletic Therapist for the Oshawa Generals OHL hockey club.
    Athletic therapists specialize in working with both athletes and non-athletes. They assess, prevent and rehabilitate not only sport injuries but everyday acute and chronic injuries. These injuries include concussions, strains, sprains and fractures. Shawn uses manual therapy and exercise prescription to obtain specific rehab goals for each patient.
